DESCRIPTION

A malfunction occurs in LIN communication of the components related to the rain sensor between the rain sensor and windshield wiper relay assembly.

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

NOTICE:

  • When using the Techstream with the power switch off to troubleshoot:

    Connect the Techstream to the vehicle, and turn a courtesy light switch on and off at 1.5 second intervals until communication between the Techstream and vehicle begins.

  • Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.

PROCEDURE

1.

CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RAIN SENSOR - WINDSHIELD WIPER RELAY ASSEMBLY)

(a) Disconnect the I56 windshield wiper relay assembly connector.

(b) Disconnect the T8 rain sensor connector.

(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

Tester Connection

I56-14 (MPX1) - T8-1 (MPX)

Below 1 Ω

I56-14 (MPX1) - Body ground

10 kΩ or higher

NG

REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (WINDSHIELD WIPER RELAY ASSEMBLY - BATTERY AND BODY GROUND)

(to Windshield Wiper Relay Assembly)

(a) Disconnect the windshield wiper relay assembly connector.

(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

Tester Connection

(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Voltage:

REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

3.

CHECK WINDSHIELD WIPER RELAY ASSEMBLY

(a) Temporarily replace the windshield wiper relay assembly with a new or normally functioning one.

(b) Check the rain sensor function.

Rain sensor function is normal

END (WINDSHIELD WIPER RELAY ASSEMBLY IS DEFECTIVE)

Rain sensor function is not normal
