Lexus NX: Precaution

PRECAUTION

TROUBLESHOOTING PRECAUTIONS

(a) When there is a malfunction with terminal contact points or a problem with the installation of a part, reconnecting the connectors or removal/installation of the suspected parts may return the system to the normal condition either completely or temporarily.

(b) In order to clearly determine the malfunctioning area, be sure to check the operation conditions at the time the malfunction occurred, using information such as DTCs and freeze frame data, and record it before disconnecting connectors or removing and installing parts.

(c) Since this system may be influenced by malfunctions in systems other than the electric parking brake system, be sure to also check other systems for DTCs.

(d) Unless otherwise stated, ensure that the power switch is off when removing or installing parts.

(e) When inspecting the rear brakes, disconnect the connector of the parking brake actuator assembly or disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.

CAUTION:

When the electric parking brake switch (integration control and panel assembly) is operated, the rear disc brake piston may operate and become caught.

(f) The electric parking brake may still operate for 20 seconds* after the power switch turned off.

*: The electric parking brake may still operate up to 60 minutes depending on the state of the vehicle after the power switch turned off, so be sure to perform the work procedures with the vehicle on a level surface.

(g) If a component has been removed and installed, confirm that the system operates normally by checking for DTCs after installation has been completed.

HANDLING PRECAUTIONS

(a) When tilting the vehicle to perform work after parking the vehicle on a level surface, since a sufficient amount of braking force may not be generated, make sure to pull the electric parking brake switch (integration control and panel assembly) 2 times (2 lock operations).

HINT:

  • The electric parking brake determines the amount of force used to operate the parking brake according to the tilt angle detected by the deceleration sensor (airbag ECU assembly).
  • When the electric parking brake switch (integration control and panel assembly) is pulled 2 times (2 lock operations), the system uses the maximum amount of braking force.

(b) When replacing the parking brake ECU assembly, operate the electric parking brake switch (integration control and panel assembly), as the parking brake indicator light (red) blinks when the power switch is first turned on (IG).

CAN COMMUNICATION PRECAUTIONS

(a) The CAN communication system is used for communication between the parking brake ECU assembly, skid control ECU (brake booster with master cylinder assembly), hybrid vehicle control ECU and deceleration sensor (airbag ECU assembly). If a CAN communication malfunction is detected, DTCs corresponding to the malfunction will be stored.

(b) If a CAN DTC is output, repair the CAN malfunction first, and then troubleshoot the electric parking brake system while communication is normal.

(c) Since each CAN communication line has a specific length and route, bypass wires cannot be used for temporary repairs.
