Lexus NX: Operation Check

OPERATION CHECK

CHECK SLIDING ROOF

NOTICE:

  • If the negative battery terminal is disconnected under the following conditions, initialization of the sliding roof drive gear sub-assembly may not be completed. In this case, perform initialization.
    • Within 2 seconds after roof glass operation stops.
    • Within 10 seconds after the power switch is turned off.
  • Initialization must be completed before checking the sliding roof system auto function, key-off operation, jam protection function, wireless transmitter-linked operation, key-linked function and open warning function.

HINT:

The slide roof switch is positioned in the map light assembly.

(a) Check basic function (auto operation function):

NOTICE:

When the Techstream customize "Front SW Auto Operation" setting is not set to "ON", the auto function does not operate (initial setting is "ON").

HINT:

When the slide roof switch is operated for less than 0.3 seconds, the roof glass moves but the auto function does not operate.

(1) Turn the power switch on (IG).

(2) When the roof glass is fully closed, operate the sliding roof OPEN switch for 0.3 seconds or more. Check that the roof glass operates until it reaches the fully open position.

(3) When the roof glass is fully open or fully tilted up, operate the sliding roof CLOSE switch for 0.3 seconds or more. Check that the roof glass operates until it reaches the fully closed position.

(4) When the roof glass is fully closed, operate the sliding roof UP switch for 0.3 seconds or more. Check that the roof glass operates until it is fully tilted upward.

(5) When the roof glass is fully tilted up, operate the sliding roof DOWN switch for 0.3 seconds or more. Check that the roof glass operates until it is fully tilted downward.

(6) When the auto function is operating, check that pressing any of the slide roof switches stops the roof glass operation.

(b) Check key-off operation function:

(1) Turn the power switch from on (IG) to off and check that the roof glass can be operated via the slide roof switch. Afterward, close the driver door 1 time and check that the roof glass cannot be operated.

(2) Turn the power switch from on (IG) to off, wait approximately 43 seconds, and then check that the roof glass cannot be operated via the slide roof switch.

(3) When the power switch is turned off during an auto operation, check that the auto function continues to operate until the roof glass reaches the fully closed or fully open position.

(c) Check jam protection function:

NOTICE:

  • If the jam protection function does not operate, reset the sliding roof drive gear sub-assembly (motor).
  • The jam protection function does not operate when the roof glass is close to the fully closed position.
  • Perform the inspection from inside the vehicle.
  • Do not use a part of your body, for example, your hand, to check the jam protection function. Do not allow anything to become caught in the sliding roof by accident while performing this inspection.
  • Do not use hard objects, such as a hammer, to avoid damaging the roof.

HINT:

  • When the slide roof switch is operated for less than 0.3 seconds, the roof glass moves but the auto function does not operate.
  • The jam protection function operates during auto operation, manual operation and key-off operation.

(1) Fully open the roof glass.

(2) Hold a hammer handle sufficiently wrapped with a cloth or other material near the fully closed position.

(3) When the roof glass is fully closed by an auto slide close or tilt down operation, check that the hammer handle is not caught, an open or tilt up operation is performed, and the roof glass slides fully open or stops at a position approximately 240 mm from where the jam protection function operated.

HINT:

  • When sliding in reverse, the roof glass slides fully open or stops at a position approximately 240 mm from where the jam protection function operated (stops after maximum of 20 seconds elapse).
  • When tilting in reverse, the roof glass stops at the fully open position.
  • When the roof glass operates in reverse during an auto operation or manual operation, the roof glass slides closed or tilts down.

(d) Check wireless transmitter-linked operation:

NOTICE:

  • Check around the vehicle before performing this inspection. Do not allow anything to become caught in the sliding roof by accident while performing this inspection.
  • When the Techstream customize "P/W Up W/ Transmit" and "P/W Down W/ Transmit" settings are not set to "ON", the wireless transmitter-linked operation does not operate (initial setting is "OFF").

HINT:

The wireless transmitter-linked function and slide and tilt operations are selected via the Techstream customize function.

(1) Close all the doors and check that the key is not in the vehicle.

(2) Press and hold the transmitter UNLOCK switch for approximately 3 seconds or more and check that a roof glass tilt up or slide open operation is performed. Also, when the UNLOCK switch is released, check that the roof glass stops moving.

(3) Press and hold the transmitter LOCK switch for approximately 3 seconds or more and check that a roof glass tilt down or slide close operation is performed. Also, when the LOCK switch is released, check that the roof glass stops moving.

(e) Check key-linked function (driver door only):

NOTICE:

  • Check around the vehicle before performing this inspection. Do not allow anything to become caught in the sliding roof by accident while performing this inspection.
  • When the Techstream customize "Door Key P/W Up" and "Door Key P/W Down" settings are not set to "ON", the key-linked function does not operate (initial setting is "OFF").

HINT:

The sliding roof key-linked function can be customized to perform either the sliding roof sliding operation or tilting operation.

(1) Hold the mechanical key to the UNLOCK position of the door lock cylinder for approximately 1.5 seconds or more. Check that a roof glass tilt up or slide open operation is performed. Afterward, return the key to the neutral position and check that the door glass and roof glass stop moving.

(2) Hold the mechanical key to the LOCK position of the door lock cylinder for approximately 1.5 seconds or more. Check that a roof glass tilt down or slide close operation is performed. Afterward, return the key to the neutral position and check that the door glass and roof glass stop moving.
