Lexus NX: Manifold Absolute Pressure Circuit Problem (P0106)

Lexus NX Service Manual / Engine & Hybrid System / 2ar-fxe (engine Control) / Sfi System / Manifold Absolute Pressure Circuit Problem (P0106)

DESCRIPTION

The manifold absolute pressure sensor detects pressure inside the intake manifold as an absolute pressure with a built-in sensor and outputs it as voltage. Based on the voltage from the manifold absolute pressure sensor, the ECM controls the purge VSV and corrects any errors in the air fuel ratio due to change in pressure.

Manifold Absolute Pressure Circuit Problem

Intake manifold pressure measured after engine start drops by less than 2 kPa(abs) [15 mmHg(abs)] compared to the intake manifold pressure (atmospheric pressure) measured before engine start (2 trip detection logic).

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

When the intake manifold pressure measured after engine start drops by less than 2 kPa(abs) [15 mmHg(abs)] compared to the intake manifold pressure (atmospheric pressure) measured before engine start, the ECM interprets this as a malfunction in the manifold absolute pressure sensor and stores DTC P0106.

CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN

  1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
  2. Turn the power switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on.
  3. Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure).
  4. Turn the power switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
  5. Turn the power switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on.
  6. Put the engine in inspection mode (maintenance mode).

  7. Start the engine and warm it up until the engine coolant temperature reaches 73°C (163°F) or higher.
  8. Move the shift lever to N.
  9. Idle the engine for 10 seconds or more [A].
  10. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes [B].
  11. Read the pending DTCs.

    HINT:

    • If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
    • If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
  12. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / All Readiness.
  13. Input the DTC: P0106.
  14. Check the DTC judgment result.

    HINT:

    • If the judgment result shows NORMAL, the system is normal.
    • If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.
    • If the judgment result shows INCOMPLETE or N/A, perform steps [A] and [B] again.
  15. If no pending DTC is output, perform a universal trip and check for permanent DTCs.

    HINT:

    • If a permanent DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
    • If no permanent DTC is output, the system is normal.

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

HINT:

Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
